The most famous places in Rio de Janeiro

Olá, queridos alunos! (Hello, dear students!)

I just got back from a trip to Brazil, and I’m excited to share with you some vlogs I recorded during the trip.

Today, we are going to visit some of the most famous places in Rio de Janeiro!

Let’s start with one of my favorite spots: the Leblon boardwalk (Calçadão)!

The boardwalks of the beaches in the South Zone, such as Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, are famous for their design in Portuguese stones, creating unique and artistic patterns.

These boardwalks are popular spots for walking, running, cycling, and skating. People of all ages enjoy socializing, appreciating the sea view, and participating in outdoor activities.

The beaches in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro are known for their white sands and clear waters. The beaches are a meeting point for Cariocas, who come together to swim, sunbathe, and play beach sports like footvolley and beach volleyball.

The sea is calm and suitable for swimming in some parts, but with strong waves and ideal for surfing in other parts. The beautiful Arpoador Beach is a favorite among surfers.

The majestic Christ the Redeemer is one of the new seven wonders of the world.

The statue is located at the top of Corcovado Mountain in Tijuca National Park, at an altitude of 710 meters.

Made of reinforced concrete and soapstone, the statue is 30 meters high (38 meters including the pedestal) and is the largest Art Deco statue in the world. It was inaugurated in 1931.

The popular Selarón Steps is a public artwork located between the neighborhoods of Lapa and Santa Teresa.

The huge mosaic is the creation of Chilean artist Jorge Selarón, who started decorating the staircase in the early ’90s. Among the more than 2,000 pieces that make up the mosaic, there are tiles from over 60 countries, many of which were given to the artist by tourists and admirers of his work.

Jorge Selarón dedicated more than 20 years of his life to decorating the 215 steps of the staircase, which has become a cultural landmark of Rio de Janeiro. The colorful staircase reflects the joy of the Brazilian people and the magical energy of the marvelous city.

Sugarloaf Mountain is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic tourist spots. To reach the top, we need to take two cable car rides: first to Morro da Urca and then to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain.

The Sugarloaf cable car was inaugurated in 1912, being one of the first cable cars in the world. Since then, it has been one of Rio de Janeiro’s main tourist attractions and has enchanted millions of visitors with its impressive views.

Seen from up there, the city of Rio de Janeiro is truly wonderful.

I hope you enjoyed accompanying me on this tour of Rio de Janeiro.

See you next time! Bye-bye!
